If you have travelled regularly for the past 25 years you can’t help but develop your own guidance system on questions of destination, accommodation and ambience. Bridget Hackshaw has journeyed more widely than most and the parameters by which she judges a satisfying holiday are consequently a lot more sharply defined.
A six-month tour of Europe during her early 20s ignited an enthusiasm that has since taken her and husband Mike Savage to a multitude of destinations – both with children and without. And when it comes to New Zealand, Hackshaw’s knowledge bank and academically honed research skills mean she has few peers when it comes to understanding her country and – more importantly – knowing the best places to go.
A few years back some friends began utilising that expertise and asked her to map out New Zealand holidays for them. They liked the results, told others, and things began to snowball. Now Hackshaw has a rapidly growing business tailoring holidays for time-poor professionals. But it’s the ambience factor that gives her a real edge. She will not only find you stylish accommodation in breathtaking surroundings but will also have the necessary information about local produce and vineyards, markets, cafes, restaurants and activities.
When planning a holiday Hackshaw requests that clients provide as much detail as they can about their interests and requirements. A small deposit is taken to cover planning costs and she then researches the options, produces a customised proposal and quote and after some feedback and consequent tinkering, bookings are made.
Clients receive a personalised itinerary delivered in booklet form, providing detailed background information, photographs, directions and maps. None of those hideous plastic wallets that travel agents are so fond of.
