Next to Whangapoua beach is New Chums Beach which the Observer rated as one of the world´s top 20 beaches.
Across the harbour and less than 15 minutes drive away at Matarangi Beach is The Dunes Golf Resort. Fishing or diving trips can be organised from Whangapoua, Kuoutunu or Whitianga where there is a game fishing club. Catch the low tide at Hot Water Beach. Here you can dig holes in the sand to make pools of warm water to soak in. There are numerous walks and beaches to explore in the Coromandel region.
